How to Look Stylish & Festive for Valentine’s Day

Hey y’all! Nice to meet you! My name is Megan and I’m one of Melissa’s styling assistants. I’m so excited to be a part of the team and share with you some creative looks for Valentine’s day. Let me know what you think and looking forward to sharing more with you soon!

Valentine’s Day can be a hard holiday to dress for. I always feel like I should look special and a little bit festive for every celebration, even if Valentine’s isn’t as traditional as other holidays. After all, every holiday deserves a little love - especially one devoted to love. However, I don’t want to be covered in neon red and pink hearts so let’s talk through some trendier options.

Since we still go to work or school on Valentine’s, many of these outfits can be worn casually (save for the lace, unless you’re feeling a bit adventurous). I am a fan of a bright pop of color and using the right tones of red and pink in classic and unique silhouettes can be just festive enough for me. I’d definitely encourage buying some of these fun pieces, if they aren’t in your wardrobe already, as they can be a fun statement piece for other occasions too!

Whether you are going to dinner, hanging with your girlfriends, or simply going to the office here are several looks you can try to stylishly show off your Valentine’s spirit!

Pink Outerwear

From an oversized blazer, a long duster, or a soft furry coat, pink outerwear has been making the rounds recently and it’s the perfect addition to your Valentine’s day look. One of my favorite looks with a loud coat is a straight leg or loose pant (think trouser or boyfriend jeans) with a perfect pump. Whether they be a fun print or a tried-and-true nude, a pair of pumps can go a long way with oversized outerwear. A pink hue will bring a little romance to your look, and I don’t know about you but fun colors always make me smile, so I hope pink will make your day brighter too!

Lace Bodysuits

Bodysuits have been on the rise the past few years, with the benefit of having the perfect tuck into your pants and skirts. This year, however, bloggers and celebrities have been wearing lacey lingerie-like (or sometimes real lingerie) bodysuits with a more casual jeans look. Tucked into a pair of boyfriend or high-waisted jeans, paired with some heeled booties, and topped with a blazer or cardigan, these lace bodysuits make for the perfect date night ensemble. Another option is to pair it with a business suit and a pair of heels, for an elevated and sexy look. If you’re a bit wary of showing skin, there are also some cute, covered long sleeve options as well!

Red Hats

I know not everyone is a fan of hats, but I’d like to suggest that you just haven’t found the right one yet! Beanies are always popular during colder weather, and this year I’ve seen a number of hats trending from berets to wide brims. Channel your inner Parisian to style one of these hats for a chic Valentine’s day look. Choose a cozy sweater and over-the-knee-boots or maybe a tweed jacket and some loafers. You can also never go wrong with a hat and a mini skirt- there’s something very Cher from Clueless about that.

Heart Jewelry

Though it may be less subtle, you can say it big or say it small with both dainty and obnoxious jewelry being popular at the moment. Delicate jewelry truly never goes out of style, though it seems to be more playful and inventive these past few years. Additionally, statement earrings are making a comeback as the minimalism trend of clothing makes way for loud jewelry. Even though the hearts can celebrate Valentine’s day, there is no reason you can’t both spread the love and wear the earrings all year round!
