…the muse behind the Full Style Refresh

What is your name?
Monet Bush

How old are you?

What do you do for a living?
I am a graphic designer and creative director at Earth & Olive.

How do you know Melissa? Where did you meet?
Working at Anthropologie! Melissa was working her styling magic even then, and I would help on in-house production design any chance I got.

What is your favorite item of clothing in your closet? Why?
My olive green tie front dress! Whether I’m feeling confident or not, this dress always makes me feel comfortable and can be dressed up or don. It’s also sustainable and was made in Kenya.

Who is your favorite designer or brand?
Andrea Iyamah and Tongoro.

What do you do when you’re not working?
Cook, work out, read, travel, but sometimes I just perfect my couch potato skills with my husband!!

What is your favorite book?
How to Maximize Your Potential - A book by 99U

Name one person who inspires you the most and explain why.
Jen Gotch - I love that she’s paved the way for talking about things like mental health in the workspace. It’s something I do with Earth & Olive and I’m excited she’s made it feel “safer”. Also Steph (of the Food Fix Up) she is always so encouraging to my feed on Instagram, not only this she’s the first woman I saw integrating design and food that gave me the push I needed for my business.

Do you have a favorite Raleigh restaurant? What is your favorite thing to order?
I’m a foodie, so ALL OF THEM. Off the top of my head, Fiction Kitchen, I order the “chicken” tinga tacos with the vegan pimento cheese.

What is your favorite color to wear?
Mustards or olives! I love them on my skin tone.

Describe your style:
Minimalistic with unique pops of statement pieces!

Name one fashion trend that you couldn’t get enough of when you were a kid:
Mood rings.

Cat or dog?

Coffee or tea?
Depends on the day! Today I’m all about tea. If it’s coffee, I like it black as it comes!

What do you love about your work?
I love seeing people reach their target audience with their product/service/brand etc! It’s amazing to be able to aid people in maximizing profits on something they are so passionate about.

List 5 words that the people closest to you would use to describe you.
Spontaneous, mischievous, fun, free-spirited, inquisitive.

How do you combat insecurity or feelings of unworthiness?
Meditate on where the feelings manifested. I tackle where the feelings came from so I can tackle the lies.

Where is your dream vacation destination?
Bali is up next for sure!

Share some of your dreams. What are some goals or dreams you hope to accomplish in 2019 and beyond?
I hope to be more involved in collaboration (like the Wellness Planner for Ban.do I’m a part of!), so far so good! By April I hope to have my dream project launched. It’s in motion, but it is a project that is meant to help people of color and connect them in ways to evoke change!

What or who makes you feel really beautiful and confident?
Clear skin and being able to use my voice! I love when I feel beautiful with a clear face. I love a great face beat, but feel so happy when I feel confident and hydrated without it!

What do you like most about yourself?
My creativity and ability to have fun in whatever circumstance. For example, my husband and I were stranded for a week in an airport overseas with no money. We still had an amazing time (and got creative!)!

Why do you think it is important to hire a stylist?
I think it’s important to hire anyone who has studied and mastered their craft. Collaboration is also important to take things to the next level. Someone who specializes in something will see things differently than you would!
